If there's one topic currently stirring discussion in the travel industry, it's the carbon footprint of air travel. And not all Paris‑NYC flights have the same carbon footprint!

Afidium has developed a solution to measure carbon impact as closely as possible to reality and, above all, to highlight the most virtuous journeys in order to allow travelers to select the best flight.

Afidium Carbon Impact Calculator: How does it work?

Unlike institutional calculators that put all flights between two geographical points in the same boat, Afidium's Impact Calculator takes into account more data, including:

  • The distance traveled
  • The type of device used and its average fuel consumption
  • The number of seats per cabin,
  • The average occupancy rate

This different data allows us to calculate a carbon impact rate per traveler, which is displayed in some of our solutions.

Carbon Impact Calculator: 3 use cases for using the data

Pre‑sales:
  • Our flight engine, IaQoBo , displays the carbon impact of each flight proposal. This allows travelers to quickly identify the least impactful route/airline mix.

During the life of the file:
  • In Sasha , our case management system, the data is stored and recalculated if the route changes.

In hindsight:
  • Also in Sasha , a “Carbon Impact” file can be extracted in CSV format, for simple use, such as, for example, the rapid creation of the report to establish your carbon offset.

Customer review of the Carbon Impact Calculator – Vincent Bernt @Irwigoo

“Being able to calculate the carbon impact of our flights is essential, not only because it is necessary to support the CSR initiatives of our Tour Operator clients, but also to enable the traveler to be provided with an estimate of the carbon impact generated by their entire vacation (including flights).
In addition, once the carbon impact is known, our Tour Operator clients benefit from a working basis for measuring and implementing strategies to reduce the carbon impact of their trips.
Afidium, through its carbon impact calculator, allows us to achieve this dual objective.
The choice of air offers is no longer made solely on the basis of quality and price indicators, but also on the basis of the carbon impact indicator.
